The Human Element
There’s no telling how a man becomes who he will be
When he roams so many places no onlooker can see
Where in the overwhelming cold of uncounted lonely evenings
His wild fire is tempered in the pit of his being
This burning light will act as a guide
Through the trails of his life
Not to be shrouded or out-shined
By moves unfair and thoughts unquiet
He’ll enter any ring with any enemy
But survival is prey to summary
Settled on the shoulders of whoever is still standing
On the circumstance behind the scene
And the smoldering coal of the gallery
That in radiant waves will be washed away
His heart must be wide
Because he can’t know himself with his eyes
Forsaking this, he’ll scan the land for something he won’t find
In the wrong place, in the wrong way, believing he is right
Bound to the spectral range bent around a bright flame
The body of refracted light emitted from his mind
Glowing in the dark of unending night
As a brilliant speck to those of dim sight
Dullards with dull eyes
That flicker faintly and die
Very few seek what even fewer end up finding
How a peace so elemental stays hidden so sublimely
The way of understanding is a solitary journey
For the mystery of man lay bare in sight unseen
They Lose
Waste away
Let them take it
Take it easy
They make it so easy
They make it to show you
On sign and sound wave
They’re not hiding
No more hiding
Amongst the blind
They see for miles
They see without eyes
What they sought
What they got
What we gave them
What we give them
What is ours
What is vital
Everyone given in
To our own creation
That created them
Makers of men
Brothers without kin
Our generation’s dead
Without them
Movers of mountains
Shaping the sky
They breathe its air
But forgot why
We're born just the same
And we never needed them before they came
Things aren’t looking any better
Losing our spirit
Following the letter
Once a cure
Now a cancer
Prognosis grim
Bones broken and reset
Regenerating limbs
Loose muscle
Stainless metal
Sore vestiges
But time is a friend
To the living and the dead
When their cold blood is let
Their blighted hides shed
We’ll have the strength
To face what we couldn’t see
Regain what we forgot
Never again forget
